The WEA has been working in Stoke-on-Trent ever since 1908, when the RH Tawney ran the organisation’s first-ever tutorial class in Economics in Longton. We still run a wide range of courses in the area through project staff and volunteer-led branches.
We are based in an office at the Port Vale Enterprise Centre. From here we run a large health and exercise project, with our nearest Keep Fit class to Burslem taking place in Holy Trinity Church in Hamil Road. This will be enrolling again from September, it is free and open to everybody. We also run classes in Tunstall as well as the other towns of Stoke-on-Trent, so keep an eye on the website for the ones closest to you.
We have a team that likes to get involved in anything and everything. In recent weeks we’ve taken part in Global Health Day, the Potters Arf and Sanity Fair. As well as health & exercise, we run courses such as Take Part in your community, literacy, numeracy, English language, IT, history and much more.
We are always keen to make new links with other organisations in the city and can help to promote other learning and physical activity opportunity through our Open Learning Map.
